The LEOPARD 2 A7+ was developed and qualified for the new tasks of the German Bundeswehr. The system components optimised to protect the vehicle crew proved themselves in deployment in Afghanistan with our NATO partner Canada.
Performance characteristics of the LEOPARD 2 A7+
The running gear and power pack have been optimised and reinforced for better stability and ideal power transmission in comparison with earlier variants.
The chassis and turret are each equipped with an air conditioning system for operation in hot climate zones.
The combination of thermal imager and low light amplifier improves the driver’s night vision in all directions.
The 120mm main gun (calibre length 55) together with the improved optronics make for the exceptional combat capabilities of the Leopard 2. Thanks to its ability to fire programmable ammunition, it can react to an extremely wide variety of threat scenarios.
The stabilised remote-controllable weapon station (FLW 200) can be equipped with a wide range of weapons and operated from inside the vehicle.
The turret crew has extra protection for greater safety from threats from above.
To determine the influences on projectile trajectory, the vehicle is equipped with a sensor for detecting geological data (e.g. wind).
The hull area has been additionally reinforced in order to better protect the crew from mines, IEDs and other threats.
Facts about the LEOPARD 2 A7+
