The FLW 200 Plus is the direct advancement of the FLW 200 with considerably greater firepower. The integration of the mission-proven Rh202 DM6 A1 automatic cannon in 20 x 139mm calibre enables the system to be operated via remote control while the vehicle is protected.
Performance characteristics of the weapon station FLW 200 Plus
Thanks to the use of a 20mm-calibre automatic cannon, the FLW 200 Plus expands the mission-tested KNDS Deutschland weapon stations of the FLW systems by significantly increasing their effect on the target.
The FLW 200 Plus enables the use of the automatic cannon Rh 202 DM6 A1 in calibre 20 x 139 mm.
Double belt feed enables the use of two different types of ammunition.
The optronic sensor systems of the FLW 200 were adopted 1 : 1 and are thus interchangeable.
The anchoring and control interfaces of the FLW 200 Plus are unchanged as compared to those of the FLW 100/200. This enables installation/retrofitting on vehicles with FLW interfaces.
The FLW 200 Plus is operated with the same control elements as the FLW 100/200. The selection of a second ammunition type was incorporated in the operation concept.
The FLW 200 Plus can be expanded by the addition of the MPL-76 mm protection system. Configuration and system operation are identical to the FLW 200.
Facts about the FLW 200 Plus
The FLW 200 Plus is the direct advancement of the FLW 200 intended to significantly increase firepower. The purpose was to integrate the automatic cannon qualified and introduced in the Bundeswehr and its 20mm ammunition to make it compatible with the system.
This approach was endorsed based on Germany’s past deployments and the demand to increase combat capabilities while keeping system weight as low as possible. The compact design of the FLW 200 Plus was specifically conceived for armoured vehicles with limited roof loads.
The system design follows the modular configuration of the FLW 100/200 and makes use of the same components to do so, such as the control unit, hand controller, optronics modules and control electronics. Mechanical and electrical interfaces were also adopted 1:1 to ensure operation on vehicle systems with sufficient roof loads which have already been prepared for FLW weapon stations.
The electrical and gyro-stabilised drive units have been adapted to the increased system weight, thus maintaining a high dynamic rotation of n x 360°, as well as in an elevation range from -10 to +50°.
The mission-proven Rh202 DM 6 A1 automatic cannon in calibre 20 x 139 mm was integrated into the FLW 200 Plus as an armament. In order to ensure feasible operation of the MK20 on the weapon station under vehicle protection, the tensioning device, double-belt feed and firing mechanism were modified so as to guarantee remote-controlled actuation of these functions.
Ammunition containers and feed have been configured for a quantity of 150 rounds. These can be divided into 100 rounds of ammunition type “A” to 50 rounds of ammunition type “B”.
The system architecture of the FLW 100/200 was adopted for the FLW 200 Plus and thus complies with the strict technical and safety-related system requirements of the KNDS Deutschland weapon stations.
The FLW 200 weapon equipment kits introduced for the heavy machine gun in cal. 12.7mm and automatic grenade launcher in cal. 40mm (H&K) can still be used.
- Adaptation of protection systems (MPL-40mm and MPL-76mm)
- Adaptation of other weapons
- Adaptation of ballistic protection modules
- Capability expansions, such as
- Sniper detection
- Shot counter
